Meet the Musical Director: Steven Applegate

We sat down with Steven Applegate, musical director for this year's festival. He shares his history and what audiences can expect this summer...

How did you get started in theater?41472_691537500_2064_n
I used to be a singer/dancer onstage, and on one final dress rehearsal, the pianist got sick, and I was asked to play for the rehearsal... I have been in the pit ever since.

Have we seen you in anything lately?
I was the MD for last year's Broadway In The Park production of "The Music Man." My most recent production (currently playing) is "ANNIE" at the Glendale Centre Theatre.

What is your vision for Joseph?
"Joseph" is such an uplifting and energetic show. I want to guide our actors and singers in presenting a great story that moves people... and invite the audience to have lots of fun along with us.

What should auditioners expect when they arrive on day one?
To be prepared to show off your unique musical talents. Be true to yourself up there. This show is a big mixture of musical styles, so whatever 'type' you are, there's something you can bring to the table.

Tell us what you love most about the show...
I love the story.  It's simple, yet heartwarming.  And the score is just so much fun!
