PRELIMINARY VOCAL AUDITIONS
Monday, June 9, 7:00pm -10:00pm in Johnson Hall, El Segundo Methodist Church
No appointments will be taken for these required preliminary auditions—First come, first served.

Preliminary auditions are required for anyone who wants to be considered for any role in the show, including dancers and ensemble. Prepare 32 bars from a classic musical theatre song that showcases your vocal range. Songs from “Singin' In The Rain” are acceptable. Please bring sheet music in the appropriate key. An accompanist will be provided. No CDs or tracks permitted.

CALLBACKS: ACTING / DANCE – Tuesday, June 10, 7:00pm -11:00pm in JOHNSON HALL. You will be notified if you have been called back for these acting or dance callbacks. Please bring tap/jazz shoes and dress to move.

FINAL CALLBACKS – Wednesday, June 11, 7:00pm -10:00pm in JOHNSON HALL. Only those performers who are specifically asked to come to final callbacks may attend. When called back, you will be given a specific time slot to come to Johnson Hall. These callbacks will consist of additional singing, reading from script, and movement. Please keep this important date open.

PERFORMANCE DATES: August 7, 8, 9 & 10 at El Segundo Recreation Park Softball Field.

REHEARSAL SCHEDULE: Rehearsals will be on a Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu schedule from 7:00pm to 10:30pm and Sat. rehearsals from 10:00am - 5:00pm. Rehearsals begin on Monday, July 7 at 7:00pm.

FIRST REHEARSAL: Monday, July 7th at 7:00pm. We will distribute detailed rehearsal schedules, cover housekeeping issues, and begin rehearsal.

SCRIPTS & SCORES: Digital copies of the script and vocal arrangements will be distributed to principal cast members at the conclusion of casting. ALL PRINCIPALS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE THEIR LINES MEMORIZED BY THE FIRST REHEARSAL.

CREW: Openings in all areas including lights, scenery, make-up and costumes. No experience needed. Those interested should email Michelle Akeley, Production Manager at michelleakeley@gmail.com.

LOCATIONS: Johnson Hall is located at El Segundo Methodist Church (540 Main St., El Segundo). The performances will be held at El Segundo Recreation Park Softball Field (corner of Grand Ave. and Eucalyptus Dr., El Segundo).

Plot Summary
Singin' In The Rain tells the story of the first Hollywood musical, when the silver screen found its voice and left silent movies – and some of its stars – behind. This spectacular show is packed full of the charm, romance, comedy and tinseltown glamour of one the world’s best loved movies and features all the songs from the glorious MGM score including Good MorningMake ‘em LaughMoses Supposes and the classic Singin’ in the Rain.

KATHY SELDEN: female, 21-30 (Soprano) Young up-and-coming actress and Don's love interest. Smart, strong-willed, and has a big heart. Strong singer, dancer (tap/jazz), and ingenue actress. A true triple threat.
 
COSMO BROWN: male, 25-50 (Tenor) Studio's music director and Don's best friend. Strong comic actor (slapstick/physicality), dancer (tap), and singer. A true triple threat.

R.F. SIMPSON: male, 45-70. Monumental Pictures' cigar-chomping president. Non-singing.

ROSCOE DEXTER: male, 30-55. Comedic, high-strung director for Monumental Pictures. The stereotypical "tortured artist." Non-singing.

DORA BAILEY: female, 40-70. Bubbly, larger-than-life Hedda Hopper-style gossip columnist and radio personality. Non-singing.

MS. DINSMORE: female, 40-65.  Diction coach to Lina Lamont. No-nonsense, classical, and supremely frustrated. Non-Singing.

ZELDA ZANDERS: female, 25-45. (Soprano)  Flapper starlet and Lina's best friend. Strong singer and dancer. Doubles as adult ensemble.

MALE DICTION COACH: male, 30-70. Comic actor with an over-the-top Shakespearian affect.  Non-singing. Doubles as adult ensemble.

PRODUCTION TENOR: male, 25-50. (Tenor) Sings "Beautiful Girl." Seeking a true tenor with a soaring voice.

ROD: male, 25-50. (Baritone) Head of the studio's publicity department. Doubles as adult ensemble.

SID PHILLIPS: male, 25-50. (Baritone) Music staffer at Monumental Pictures. Doubles as adult ensemble.

YOUNG DON & YOUNG COSMO: males, 8-14. Younger versions of Don & Cosmo. Must have dance background, non-singing.

ADULT ENSEMBLE: The adult chorus of the show, with several featured speaking/vocal/dancing roles available. Singing and movement required.
