El Segundo Youth Drama presents "Mr. Toad"

El Segundo Youth Drama presents "Mr. Toad's Mad Adventures" this Thursday at Recreation Park in El Segundo. Set in merry ol' England, the story brings to life the tale of Toad, Badger, Mole, and all the other beloved characters from "Wind In The Willows" as they try to thwart the Weasals and reclaim Toad Manor.

Directed by Darren Giglio and Kendall Lewis, the production is the first non-musical play ever staged by the Junior program (ages 5-11). With colorful sets, original instrumental interludes, and all the charm of the famous novel, "Mr. Toad's Mad Adventures" is a great outing that the whole family can enjoy.

Mayhem Abounds At "Mysteries En Brochette"

If you're a fan of murder mystery dinners, you'll love Marina Del Rey's Mysteries En Brochette. This troupe of working Hollywood actors gets together twice a month to serve up some tasty food and a hilarious performance. I had the pleasure of checking out their Saturday performance of "Hollywood's Fatal Premier," one of four scripts they rotate throughout the year. The production was high-energy and chock full of audience interaction - guests try to figure out "whodunnit" and get prizes for their answers - making it a fun experience for the detective in all of us.

Check out their video and get the scoop on Mysteries En Brochette. It's a fun night out that had me cracking up. I think you'll dig it too.

BITP Update - 11/13

These last few weeks have been awesomely busy for the Broadway In The Park team. I'm so jazzed the vision is turning into reality and it's in no small part thanks to your passion and support. So, thanks guys! Without further ado, here's the update:

We're In Like Flynn
The fantastic staff at El Segundo Recreation Park have been working with me for months to see if Broadway In The Park would be a good fit for their space. After countless hours of planning and details that would make an accountant blush, we had a joint proposal ready for approval by the Parks Commission. We're happy to say that our presentation was right on the money because the Commission unanimously approved Broadway In The Park! Woo-hoo! Now with City backing, we look forward to presenting our program Summer 2010 on the Rec Park Softball Field. More details to come as we lock in performance dates...

Social Media Madness
We want to connect with you! This blog has been going for a while, but we want to connect with you on all fronts. That's why our team has been putting Broadway In The Park on all the major social media platforms. Notice the slick little icons on the right toolbar of the blog? They'll link you to our other sites including Facebook, Twitter, and our brand-spanking-new website. Check 'em out! And friend us. We want to be friends with you. We got out cooties shot and everything!

What We're All About
You may have noticed that we publish a lot of posts about other theatres. What's that all about?? Our mission is threefold: to produce great summer theatre, provide a forum for local artists to do their thing, and to support our South Bay arts community. This blog is mostly about that last one. We believe that theatre needs community support more than ever to thrive and stay relevant in the 21st century. Arts companies spend too much energy fighting for resources... what if we shared resources instead? We support and believe in our South Bay arts community and know that by sharing the love, we all benefit.

"Okay, I understand the community part. But what about the first two parts of your mission. What IS Broadway In The Park?" Glad you asked! Check out these incredibly good-looking links and get the skinny: The Product, The Setting, The Pre-Show.

That's our update, folks. Looking forward to another great month of progress and building the dream with you guys. Onward and upward!

-Jeff
